Nicht selten schlie\u00dft sich daran die Forderung an, diese Trennung durch Einsicht in Kontinuit\u00e4ten zu unterlaufen. Anhand einer Rekapitulation des modernen Diskurses um den Begriff der Energie zeigt der Artikel dagegen, dass die Vorstellung der Moderne als anti-\u00f6kologische Gesellschaftsform zu kurz greift: Sie unterschl\u00e4gt, dass das \u201eHerausarbeiten\u201c des modernen Menschen aus der Natur immer auch bedeutete, Gesellschaft selbst als naturbedingt, bisweilen gar als nat\u00fcrliche, zu begreifen. In einer historisch-soziologischen Analyse der Energiewirtschaft wird daran anschlie\u00dfend gezeigt, dass diese zwar eine reale Trennung zwischen nat\u00fcrlicher und menschlicher Arbeit vollzieht und verdinglicht, dabei jedoch eine darunterliegende Verbundenheit unterstellt. Denn die Realisierung dieser Trennung beruht gerade <jats:italic>nich<\/jats:italic><jats:italic>t<\/jats:italic> auf der Vorstellung, Gesellschaft sei das Andere der Natur. Vielmehr folgten Wissenschaftler und Ingenieure der klassischen Moderne einer \u201eproduktivistischen \u00d6kologie\u201c, der zufolge Gesellschaft erst in ihrer energetischen Gattungsentwicklung zu ihrer nat\u00fcrlichen Bestimmung findet. Diese Vorstellung verliert seit den 1970er-Jahren an \u00dcberzeugungskraft.
